GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for the award of the B.Sc. (Hons) Degrees in Biology and Microbiology, the student must register for and pass a minimum of 165 units, which must include all the Compulsory Courses, University General Courses, NUC Courses and SIWES as presented below:

1. MICROBIOLOGY PROGRAMME
PROGRAMME: Microbiology
DEGREE AWARDED: B.Sc. (Honours) Microbiology
DURATION: 4 Years (8 Semesters)

Mission of Programme
- To prepare the students for career opportunities in microbiological sciences and to participate in public service through high quality academic curriculum and training programmes in various disciplines of microbiology, producing microbiologists with recognizable quality.
- To empower the students to recognize, investigate and propose solutions to the several microbiological problems affecting man and his environment through the designed programmes.
- To ensure that Microbiology is positively visible and contributing to the decision-making of public administrators, private companies, educational and research institutions, media and all who can benefit from the value and potential of Microbiology.
Philosophy of Programme
The Undergraduate academic Programmes of Covenant University is focussed on raising a new generation of leaders, equipped in their total personality to positively influence their community and restore hope to the citizens of their nation and to mankind in general. The Programmes are also designed to provide the students with a thorough, broad and balanced foundation in order to prepare them for career opportunities or an environment where they can be creative, innovative and self-reliant.

- To provide the students with a knowledge and skills base from which they can proceed for further studies in specialized areas of Microbiology or multi-disciplinary areas involving Microbiology
- To prepare the students for careers in agriculture, medical fields, environmental studies, research institutes, industries and even for self- employment.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for the 4-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Degree in Microbiology at Covenant University,- Candidates must possess at least five (5) credits level passes in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at the Ordinary level Examination of WAEC/NECO/SSCE/NABTEB at not more than two (2) sittings.
- In addition to the above, the candidate must have taken the UTME examination of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and must have obtained the prescribed cut-off score set by JAMB. The candidate must also undergo the post-UTME screening exercise conducted by the University.
- UTME Subjects includes Use of English, Biology, Physics, Chemistry

Philosophy of Programme
The BSc Biology programme is designed to equip students with practical application of biological knowledge; as it emphasizes the relevance of biology-based knowledge, environmental and modern molecular skills to the functioning of the various industries; such as research and development, product development, analysis and quality management, biomedical, clinical and biological laboratories, public health, pharmaceutics or healthcare, environmental practices, conservation, bioresources management, water resources and aquatics, etc. Opportunities for graduates for either options span a wide spectrum from national institutions to regional bodies and global centres like those of the CGIAR, several UN bodies like Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) etc, bordering on food, agriculture, water, environment, health, population, explorationary, diseases management, conservation, petrochemical etc. The programme is also designed create an breed entrepreneurial-minded graduates relevant to almost every sector of the economy and society with the added value of being able to create employment.
Objectives of Programme
The major objectives of the programme are:
- provide a sound understanding of the concepts and methodologies of modern Plant and Animal Sciences, Applied Biology, Environmental Sciences and Molecular Biotechnology as it meets the immediate and future needs of society;
- develop in the students the knowledge and transferable skills to solving theoretical and practical problems in the varied aspects of the industry where they might be engaged;
- broadly educate the students and open them up for the broad spectrum of opportunities offered by the modern animal, plant, environmental and biotechnology industry at the professional level;
- provide the students with a broad and balanced foundation knowledge and the practical skills required to meet the demands of these contemporary and evolving areas;
- provide the students with a knowledge and skills base from which they can proceed to further studies in specialized or multi-disciplinary areas in Animal Sciences, Applied Biology, Environmental Sciences and Molecular Biotechnology as well as in related areas;
- provide the students through training and orientation with inter- and multi-disciplinary solution-generation approaches to industrial, economic, environmental, technological and social developmental issues; and
- provide the students with the knowledge and skills to create employments in varied areas of Animal Sciences, Applied Biology, Environmental Sciences and Molecular Biotechnology
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- To qualify for admission into Biology programme, a candidate must possess ‘O’ Level (WASC/GCE/SSCE/NECO or Equivalent) credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
- In addition, an acceptable pass in the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and fulfil all other admission processes as prescribed by the Covenant University.
